Live
Live (pronunciation: /laɪv/)
Live is a term used in various fields of medicine, particularly in the context of live vaccines, live births, and live donor transplants.
Etymology
The term "live" originates from the Old English word "lifian", which means to be alive or have life.
Live Vaccines
Live vaccines are vaccines that contain a version of the living microbe that causes the disease in question. The microbe has been weakened in the lab so it can’t cause disease. Live vaccines are used to protect against diseases such as measles, mumps, rubella (MMR combined vaccine), rotavirus, smallpox, chickenpox, and yellow fever.
Live Births
In medical terminology, a live birth refers to the complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of a product of conception, irrespective of the duration of the pregnancy, which, after such separation, breathes or shows any other evidence of life.
Live Donor Transplants
Live donor transplant is a type of organ transplant in which a living person donates an organ or part of an organ to another person. It is an important treatment option for end-stage kidney disease and end-stage liver disease.
