The Nobel Prize in Chemistry is awarded annually by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences to scientists in the various fields of chemistry. It is one of the five Nobel Prizes established by the will of Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite, in 1895. The first prize was awarded in 1901.

History

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry was first awarded in 1901 to Jacobus Henricus van 't Hoff for his discovery of the laws of chemical dynamics and osmotic pressure in solutions. Since then, the prize has been awarded annually, with some exceptions, such as during the World Wars.

Selection Process

The selection process for the Nobel Prize in Chemistry involves several steps. Nominations are submitted by qualified individuals, including previous laureates and members of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. The Nobel Committee for Chemistry reviews the nominations and makes recommendations to the Academy, which makes the final decision.
