The Doctors' Trial at Nuremberg, 1946–1947

The List of Nazi doctors includes physicians who were involved in Nazi human experimentation and other war crimes during World War II. These doctors were often members of the Nazi Party and participated in unethical medical practices, including euthanasia programs and experimentation on human subjects in concentration camps. Many of these individuals were tried and convicted in the Doctors' Trial at Nuremberg.

Notable Nazi Doctors[edit]

Josef Mengele[edit]

Josef Mengele was a SS officer and physician at Auschwitz concentration camp. He is infamous for his inhumane medical experiments on prisoners, especially twins. Mengele's experiments included attempts to change eye color by injecting chemicals into children's eyes, amputations, and other brutal procedures.

Karl Brandt[edit]

Karl Brandt was a personal physician to Adolf Hitler and headed the Nazi euthanasia program known as Aktion T4. He was responsible for the systematic killing of individuals deemed "unworthy of life," including the mentally ill and physically disabled.

Herta Oberheuser[edit]

Herta Oberheuser was a physician at the Ravensbrück concentration camp, where she conducted medical experiments on prisoners, including deliberately inflicting wounds to simulate combat injuries and testing the effects of various treatments.

Aribert Heim[edit]

Aribert Heim, known as "Dr. Death," was a doctor at the Mauthausen concentration camp. He conducted experiments on prisoners, including injecting toxic substances directly into the hearts of victims.

Sigmund Rascher[edit]

Sigmund Rascher was involved in high-altitude and freezing experiments at the Dachau concentration camp. His experiments were intended to benefit the Luftwaffe by determining how to treat pilots who had been exposed to extreme conditions.

Doctors' Trial[edit]

The Doctors' Trial was the first of the Nuremberg Military Tribunals held after World War II. It prosecuted 23 German physicians and administrators for their roles in war crimes and crimes against humanity. The trial highlighted the ethical violations and atrocities committed by medical professionals under the Nazi regime.
