Lenawee County, Michigan is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 99,423. The county seat is Adrian. Lenawee County is part of the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Lenawee County was created in 1822 and organized in 1826. The name Lenawee is believed to be derived from a Native American word meaning "man" or "male." The county played a significant role in the early settlement of Michigan, with many pioneers drawn to the area for its fertile land and abundant resources.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 761 square miles, of which 750 square miles is land and 11 square miles (1.5%) is water. It is bordered by Jackson, Washtenaw, Hillsdale, and Monroe Counties in Michigan, and by Lucas County, Ohio and Fulton County, Ohio to the south.

As of the 2020 Census, there were 99,423 people residing in the county. The racial makeup of the county was predominantly White, with significant African American, Hispanic or Latino, Asian, and Native American populations. The economy of Lenawee County is diverse, with a mix of manufacturing, agriculture, and service industries.
Government
The government of Lenawee County is structured with a Board of Commissioners, which consists of members elected from districts within the county. The county also elects officials such as the Sheriff, Clerk, Treasurer, and Prosecutor.

Lenawee County is home to several cities, villages, and townships. The largest city and county seat is Adrian, known for its historic downtown and cultural attractions. Other notable communities include Tecumseh, Blissfield, and Hudson.
