La Mott, Pennsylvania
La Mott, Pennsylvania is a small, historically significant unincorporated community in Cheltenham Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. It is located in the southeastern part of the state, near Philadelphia.
History[edit]
La Mott was known as Camp William Penn during the American Civil War. It was the first training ground for African American troops in the Union Army. The community was later named after Lucretia Mott, a noted abolitionist, women's rights activist, and social reformer.
Geography[edit]
La Mott is located in the southeastern part of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. It is bordered by the communities of Elkins Park, Melrose Park, and Cheltenham. The community is primarily residential, with a mix of single-family homes, townhouses, and apartments.
Demographics[edit]
As of the 2010 census, La Mott had a population of approximately 2,000 residents. The community is diverse, with a mix of races and ethnicities represented.
Education[edit]
La Mott is served by the Cheltenham Township School District. The district operates several elementary schools, a middle school, and Cheltenham High School.
Notable people[edit]
