La Choy was established in 1922 by Dr. Ilhan New, a Korean immigrant, and Wally Smith, a University of Michigan student. The company initially focused on producing bean sprouts and soy sauce. Over time, La Choy expanded its product line to include a variety of Asian food items.
In 1943, La Choy was acquired by Beatrice Foods, a major food processing company. Under Beatrice Foods, La Choy continued to grow and became a well-known brand in the United States. In 1990, Beatrice Foods was acquired by Conagra Brands, which currently owns La Choy.
