Klein Field at Sunken Diamond is a baseball stadium located on the Stanford University campus in Stanford, California. It serves as the home field for the Stanford Cardinal baseball team. The stadium is known for its picturesque setting and has been a significant venue for college baseball since its opening.

History[edit]

Klein Field at Sunken Diamond was opened in 1931 and has undergone several renovations to maintain its status as one of the premier college baseball facilities in the country. The stadium was originally named Sunken Diamond due to its unique construction, where the field is situated below ground level, creating a "sunken" effect. In 2001, the field was renamed Klein Field at Sunken Diamond in honor of Bud Klein, a former Stanford baseball player and benefactor.

The stadium has a seating capacity of approximately 4,000 spectators. It features a natural grass playing surface, state-of-the-art lighting for night games, and modern amenities for both players and fans. The outfield dimensions are 335 feet down the left field line, 375 feet to left-center, 400 feet to center field, 375 feet to right-center, and 335 feet down the right field line.

Klein Field at Sunken Diamond has hosted numerous significant events, including NCAA Regional and Super Regional tournaments. It has also been the site of several Pac-12 Conference championships and has seen many future Major League Baseball players take the field.

Many notable players have played at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond, including Mike Mussina, Jack McDowell, and Carlos Quentin. These players have gone on to have successful careers in Major League Baseball.

The stadium is located on the Stanford University campus, near the intersection of El Camino Real and Embarcadero Road. It is easily accessible by car, and there is ample parking available for fans attending games.
