Khalid bin Mohsen Shaari (pronunciation: /kʰaːlid bin moːsɛn ʃaːri/) is a Saudi Arabian man who was once considered the heaviest person in the world.

Etymology

The name Khalid is of Arabic origin and means "eternal". The name Mohsen is also of Arabic origin and means "beneficent". Shaari is a common surname in Saudi Arabia.

Biography

Khalid bin Mohsen Shaari was born on 28 February 1991 in Saudi Arabia. In August 2013, he was reported to be the heaviest living person in the world, with a weight of 610 kg (1,340 lb). His weight was a result of severe morbid obesity, a condition characterized by an excessive amount of body fat that can interfere with basic physical functions such as breathing or walking.

Medical Intervention

In 2013, upon the orders of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, Shaari was airlifted to Riyadh for treatment. His treatment included a gastric bypass surgery and a strict diet and exercise regimen. As of 2017, he had lost over 700 pounds and his weight was reported to be 68 kg (150 lb).
