Jewel-Osco is a supermarket chain headquartered in Itasca, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. The company operates in the Midwestern United States, primarily in the states of Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa. Jewel-Osco is a subsidiary of Albertsons, one of the largest food and drug retailers in the United States.

History[edit]

Jewel-Osco was founded in 1899 as the Jewel Tea Company by Frank Vernon Skiff and Frank Ross in Chicago, Illinois. Initially, the company delivered coffee, tea, and other groceries door-to-door. In 1932, Jewel acquired the grocery store chain Osco, which led to the formation of Jewel-Osco. The company expanded rapidly, opening numerous stores across the Midwest.

Jewel-Osco operates both supermarkets and pharmacies. The stores offer a wide range of products, including fresh produce, meat, dairy, bakery items, and household goods. Many locations also feature in-store pharmacies, providing prescription medications and health services.
