JayC Food Stores is a supermarket chain based in the United States, primarily operating in the state of Indiana. Founded in 1863, JayC is one of the oldest grocery chains in the country and is a subsidiary of Kroger, one of the largest supermarket chains in the United States.

History

JayC Food Stores was established in 1863 by John C. Groub in Seymour, Indiana. The company began as a small general store and gradually expanded its operations throughout southern Indiana. Over the years, JayC has grown to become a well-known regional grocery chain, maintaining a strong presence in the communities it serves.

In 1999, JayC was acquired by Kroger, which allowed the chain to benefit from Kroger's extensive resources and distribution network. Despite the acquisition, JayC has retained its brand identity and continues to operate under its original name.

Operations

JayC Food Stores operates numerous locations across southern Indiana, offering a wide range of products including fresh produce, meats, dairy, bakery items, and household goods. The stores are known for their customer service and community involvement, often participating in local events and charitable activities.

The chain focuses on providing quality products at competitive prices, catering to the needs of local customers. JayC stores are typically smaller than Kroger's larger supermarket formats, allowing them to serve as convenient neighborhood grocery stores.

JayC Food Stores offer a variety of products and services to meet the needs of their customers. These include:

  • Fresh produce and organic options
  • A full-service deli and bakery
  • Meat and seafood departments

  • Fuel centers at select locations

The stores also offer digital coupons and a loyalty program, allowing customers to save on their purchases.

Community Involvement

JayC Food Stores are actively involved in the communities they serve. The chain supports local schools, food banks, and charitable organizations through donations and sponsorships. JayC is committed to making a positive impact in the areas where its stores are located.
