Janelia Research Campus (pronounced: ja-neel-ya) is a scientific research campus of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). The campus is located in Ashburn, Virginia, United States.

Etymology

The name "Janelia" is derived from the combination of the names of the parents of James H. Clark, the founder of Netscape and Silicon Graphics, who previously owned the land where the campus is located. The names are Jane and Neil, hence "Janelia".
