Jadad Scale

The Jadad Scale (pronunciation: /'jædæd 'skeɪl/), also known as the Jadad Scoring System, is a procedure used in epidemiology to independently assess the methodological quality of a clinical trial. It is named after its creator, Alex Jadad, a Colombian physician and researcher in the field of health informatics and global health.

Etymology

The term "Jadad Scale" is derived from the name of its creator, Dr. Alex Jadad. The word "scale" is from the Latin scala meaning "ladder", reflecting the tool's use in measuring or ranking the quality of clinical trials.

Description

The Jadad Scale is a five-point scale that evaluates the methodological quality of clinical trials based on three key aspects: randomization, double-blinding, and the account of all patients, including withdrawals and dropouts. Each aspect is scored with 0 or 1, except for double-blinding, which can be scored with 0, 1, or 2. The total score ranges from 0 to 5, with higher scores indicating better methodological quality.
