Information Management (pronunciation: /ˌɪnfəˈmeɪʃən ˈmanɪdʒmənt/) is the process of collecting, storing, managing and maintaining information in all its forms. Information Management is a broad term that incorporates policies and procedures for centrally managing and sharing information among different individuals, organizations, and/or information systems.
Etymology
The term "Information Management" is derived from the Latin "informatio", meaning "to inform", and "managium", meaning "act of handling". It was first used in the mid-20th century, coinciding with the rise of information technology and the need for systems and processes to manage the increasing volume of information.
