Indra Nooyi
American business executive
Indra Nooyi is an Indian-American business executive and former CEO of PepsiCo, one of the world's largest food and beverage companies. She is known for her strategic vision and leadership in the corporate world.
Early Life and Education
Indra Nooyi was born on October 28, 1955, in Chennai, India. She attended the University of Madras, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. She later pursued a MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. In 1978, Nooyi moved to the United States to attend the Yale School of Management, where she earned a Master of Public and Private Management.
Career
Nooyi began her career in India, working for Johnson & Johnson and the textile firm Mettur Beardsell. After completing her education at Yale, she held strategic positions at The Boston Consulting Group, Motorola, and Asea Brown Boveri.
PepsiCo
In 1994, Nooyi joined PepsiCo as Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy and Development. She was instrumental in the company's restructuring and the acquisition of Tropicana Products in 1998. In 2001, she became the President and Chief Financial Officer, and in 2006, she was named the CEO, a position she held until 2018.
During her tenure, Nooyi focused on product innovation and environmental sustainability, leading initiatives to reduce the company's carbon footprint and promote healthier products. She also spearheaded the "Performance with Purpose" strategy, which aimed to deliver sustainable growth by investing in a healthier future for people and the planet.
