Hungryhouse

Hungryhouse was a UK-based platform for the online ordering of takeaway food owned by Just Eat. It provided the ability to search for restaurants and browse local takeaway menus before placing an order online and being delivered by the restaurant with a small service charge for using their service. The company was headquartered in London and covered most towns and cities in the UK.

History

Hungryhouse was founded in 2006 by Shane Lake and Tony Charles. It was an early entrant into the online food delivery market in the UK, which has since grown to include competitors such as Just Eat, Deliveroo, and Uber Eats. In 2013, Hungryhouse was acquired by Just Eat, one of its main competitors, for £200 million. The acquisition was approved by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in 2017. In 2018, Just Eat announced that it would be closing Hungryhouse to focus on its own platform.
