Geography
Howard Beach is bordered by Jamaica Bay to the south, the Belt Parkway to the north, and the neighborhoods of Ozone Park and South Ozone Park to the east. The neighborhood is divided into several sections, including Old Howard Beach, New Howard Beach, and Ramblersville.
History
The area now known as Howard Beach was originally a marshland. In the early 20th century, it was developed by William J. Howard, who purchased the land and began transforming it into a residential community. The neighborhood grew significantly after the construction of the Cross Bay Boulevard, which connected Howard Beach to the rest of Queens and facilitated further development.
Demographics
Howard Beach is predominantly a middle-class neighborhood with a diverse population. It has historically been home to a large Italian-American community, but in recent years, the demographic has become more varied, with increasing numbers of Hispanic and Asian residents.
Transportation
Howard Beach is served by the New York City Subway's IND Rockaway Line, with the Howard Beach–JFK Airport station providing access to the A train. The neighborhood is also accessible via the Belt Parkway and the Cross Bay Boulevard, which is a major thoroughfare running through the area.
