Haley Reeves Barbour (born October 22, 1947) is an American attorney, politician, and lobbyist who served as the 63rd Governor of Mississippi from 2004 to 2012. A member of the Republican Party, Barbour also served as the chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC) from 1993 to 1997.

Early Life and Education

Barbour was born in Yazoo City, Mississippi. He attended the University of Mississippi, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He later earned his law degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law.

Political Career

Early Political Involvement

Barbour began his political career in the 1960s, working on the campaign of Richard Nixon in 1968. He later served as a political aide to President Gerald Ford.

Republican National Committee

In 1993, Barbour was elected chairman of the Republican National Committee. During his tenure, he was credited with helping the Republican Party gain control of both houses of Congress in the 1994 midterm elections.

Governor of Mississippi

Barbour was elected Governor of Mississippi in 2003 and re-elected in 2007. As governor, he focused on economic development, education reform, and disaster recovery, particularly in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Post-Gubernatorial Career

After leaving office in 2012, Barbour returned to his career as a lobbyist. He co-founded the lobbying firm BGR Group, which represents a variety of clients in Washington, D.C.

Personal Life

Barbour is married to Marsha Dickson Barbour, and they have two sons. He is known for his Southern charm and political acumen.
