Hakim Syed Khaleefathullah (pronunciation: Ha-kim Sy-ed Kha-lee-fa-thul-lah) is a renowned figure in the field of Unani medicine, a traditional system of healing and health maintenance observed in South Asia.

Etymology

The name "Hakim" is of Arabic origin, meaning "wise" or "knowledgeable", often used to denote a scholar or philosopher. "Syed" is an honorific title denoting people accepted as descendants of the Islamic prophet Muhammad through his grandsons, Hasan ibn Ali and Husayn ibn Ali, sons of Muhammad's daughter Fatima Zahra and his son-in-law Ali ibn Abi Talib. "Khaleefathullah" is also of Arabic origin, meaning "Caliph of God", a title used in Islamic cultures to denote a political or religious leader.
