He opened one of the first health food stores in the United States, the "Health Hut," in Hollywood, California. He was also a regular guest on television talk shows, where he promoted his lifestyle and philosophy, often appearing in his signature bare feet and beard, playing his guitar, and sharing his enthusiasm for natural living.

Boots authored several books on health and fitness, including The Gypsy in Me and Bare Feet and Good Things to Eat. His approach to health was holistic, emphasizing the importance of physical exercise, fresh air, positive thinking, and a diet rich in raw fruits and vegetables.
