Guarani

Guarani (/ɡwaɾaˈni/; Spanish: [ɡwaˈɾani]) is an indigenous language of South America that belongs to the Tupi–Guarani family of languages. It is one of the official languages of Paraguay, where it is spoken by the majority of the population, and where half of the rural population is monolingual. It is also spoken in parts of Argentina, Brazil, and Bolivia.

Etymology

The term "Guarani" is generally thought to mean 'warrior'. It is derived from the words gua (war) and ra (warrior) in the Tupi–Guarani language family.
