Government of Pakistan

Government of Pakistan
The Government of Pakistan (Urdu: حکومتِ پاکستان) is a federal government established by the Constitution of Pakistan as a centralized governing authority of the four provinces of a proclaimed and established parliamentary democratic republic, constitutionally called the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The government is composed of three branches: the executive, the legislative, and the judiciary.
Executive Branch[edit]
The executive branch is headed by the President of Pakistan, who is the ceremonial head of state, and the Prime Minister of Pakistan, who is the head of government. The Federal Cabinet of Pakistan is composed of ministers appointed by the Prime Minister. The executive branch is responsible for enforcing laws and running the day-to-day affairs of the state.
President of Pakistan[edit]
The President of Pakistan is elected by an Electoral College consisting of the members of the Senate of Pakistan, the National Assembly of Pakistan, and the provincial assemblies. The President's role is largely ceremonial, with most executive powers vested in the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister of Pakistan[edit]
The Prime Minister is the chief executive of the country and is appointed by the President from among the members of the National Assembly. The Prime Minister leads the executive branch and is responsible for running the government and implementing laws.
Federal Cabinet[edit]
The Federal Cabinet is composed of ministers who head various ministries and departments. The Cabinet is responsible for making major policy decisions and implementing laws.
Legislative Branch[edit]
The legislative branch of the Government of Pakistan is a bicameral parliament, consisting of the Senate of Pakistan and the National Assembly of Pakistan.
Senate of Pakistan[edit]
The Senate is the upper house of the Parliament and represents the provinces and territories of Pakistan. It consists of 100 members who are elected by the provincial assemblies.
National Assembly of Pakistan[edit]
The National Assembly is the lower house of the Parliament and represents the people of Pakistan. It consists of 342 members who are elected through general elections.
Judiciary[edit]
The judiciary of Pakistan is an independent branch of the government, responsible for interpreting and applying the law. The highest court in the country is the Supreme Court of Pakistan, followed by the High Courts and other subordinate courts.
Supreme Court of Pakistan[edit]
The Supreme Court is the highest judicial authority in Pakistan and has the power of judicial review. It is headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
High Courts[edit]
There are High Courts in each of the four provinces, as well as in the federal capital, Islamabad. These courts have jurisdiction over civil and criminal matters within their respective regions.
