Goat (Gōt)

Goat is a domesticated mammal species from the family Bovidae and the subfamily Caprinae. They are one of the oldest domesticated species, and have been used for their milk, meat, hair, and skins over much of the world.

Etymology

The word "goat" is derived from Old English gāt which meant "she-goat, goat in general", a word of uncertain origin. It could be derived from the Proto-Indo-European root '*gʰaidos*' meaning "young goat", but also "play" (i.e., "to jump").

The word "goat" is pronounced as /ɡəʊt/ in British English and /ɡoʊt/ in American English.
