In 1887, it was sold to W&A Gilbey, a London-based gin producer, marking one of the first instances of a Scotch whisky distillery being owned by an English company. This ownership introduced Glen Spey whisky to a broader market.

Throughout the 20th century, Glen Spey underwent several upgrades and expansions. Despite these changes, it has managed to retain some of its traditional production methods.
