Githinji Gitahi
Githinji Gitahi (pronounced: gi-thin-ji gi-ta-hi) is a renowned global health leader and the Group CEO of Amref Health Africa, the largest Africa-based healthcare non-governmental organization. He is also the co-chair of the UHC2030 Steering Committee, a global movement to build stronger health systems for universal health coverage.
Etymology
The name "Githinji" is of Kikuyu origin, a Bantu ethnic group native to Kenya. "Gitahi" is also a Kikuyu name. Both names are common in Central Kenya, where the Kikuyu people predominantly reside.
Career
Githinji Gitahi joined Amref Health Africa in 2015. Prior to this, he served as the CEO of the African Medical and Research Foundation. He has also held senior roles at GE Healthcare, GlaxoSmithKline, and AstraZeneca.
In his role at Amref Health Africa, Gitahi has been instrumental in advocating for universal health coverage in Africa. He is a strong proponent of strengthening health systems and improving access to healthcare services, particularly for marginalized and underserved communities.
