Ganoderma sichuanense (pronunciation: gah-no-der-ma si-chuan-en-see) is a species of polypore mushroom in the family Ganodermataceae. It is a type of lingzhi mushroom, also known as reishi, which is used in traditional Chinese medicine.

Etymology

The name Ganoderma is derived from the Greek words ganos, meaning "brightness" or "sheen", and derma, meaning "skin". This refers to the shiny surface of the mushroom's cap. Sichuanense refers to the province of Sichuan in China, where this species is commonly found.

Description

Ganoderma sichuanense is a large, woody mushroom with a shiny, reddish-brown cap. The underside of the cap contains tiny pores, which release spores. The stem is usually located off-center and is also reddish-brown.
