Fresh Meadows, Queens
Fresh Meadows, Queens is a residential neighborhood located in the northeastern section of Queens, one of the five boroughs of New York City. The neighborhood is part of Queens Community Board 8 and is serviced by the New York City Police Department's 107th Precinct.
History
Fresh Meadows was originally part of the Town of Flushing, which was settled by the Dutch in the 17th century. The area was later acquired by English settlers who named it "Fresh Meadows" due to its location above a meadow that would flood and then dry out, leaving a fresh meadow.
Geography
Fresh Meadows is bordered by the Long Island Expressway to the north, Union Turnpike to the south, 188th Street to the west, and Francis Lewis Boulevard to the east. The neighborhood is characterized by its tree-lined streets and single-family homes.
Demographics
As of the 2010 United States Census, Fresh Meadows had a population of approximately 17,500. The neighborhood is diverse, with a large number of Asian, Hispanic, and White residents.
Education
Fresh Meadows is home to several public and private schools. The New York City Department of Education operates public schools in the neighborhood. Notable schools include P.S. 173 and Francis Lewis High School.
Transportation
Public transportation in Fresh Meadows is provided by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which operates bus routes through the neighborhood. The neighborhood is also easily accessible by car, with the Long Island Expressway and the Clearview Expressway running nearby.
