Frenulum breve

Frenulum breve (/frɛˈnjuːləm ˈbrɛvi/), also known as short frenulum, is a condition in which the frenulum of the penis is short and restricts the movement of the prepuce. The condition can cause discomfort during sexual activity and may interfere with normal sexual function.

Etymology

The term "frenulum breve" is derived from the Latin words "frenulum", meaning "little bridle", and "breve", meaning "short". The frenulum is so named because it restricts the movement of the prepuce, much like a bridle restricts the movement of a horse's head.

Symptoms

Symptoms of frenulum breve may include pain during erection, difficulty retracting the prepuce, and tearing or bleeding of the frenulum during sexual activity. In some cases, the condition may also cause sexual dysfunction.

Treatment

Treatment for frenulum breve may include stretching exercises, topical steroid creams, or surgical procedures such as frenuloplasty or frenectomy. In a frenuloplasty, the frenulum is lengthened through surgical incision and re-suturing. In a frenectomy, the frenulum is removed entirely.
