FOX proteins
FOX proteins are a family of transcription factors that play important roles in regulating the expression of genes involved in cell growth, proliferation, differentiation, and longevity. The name "FOX" comes from "Forkhead box," due to the similarity to the forkhead transcription factor in Drosophila. Members of the FOX protein family are characterized by a distinct DNA-binding domain known as a forkhead box, which binds to specific sequences on DNA to regulate the transcription of target genes.
Function[edit]
FOX proteins are involved in a wide range of biological processes. They are critical in the development of tissues and organs during embryogenesis, maintaining the balance between cell growth and apoptosis (programmed cell death), and in the regulation of the immune system. Each member of the FOX protein family has a unique role, depending on its specific DNA binding affinity and the tissues where it is expressed.
