Eminem (born Marshall Bruce Mathers III; October 17, 1972) is an American rapper, record producer, and actor. He is among the best-selling music artists of all time, with estimated worldwide sales of over 220 million records. Eminem is credited with popularizing hip hop in middle America and is critically acclaimed as one of the greatest rappers of all time.

Early life

Eminem was born on October 17, 1972, in St. Joseph, Missouri. He was raised in Detroit, Michigan, where he had a troubled childhood marked by poverty and allegations of abuse. Eminem developed an interest in storytelling and aspired to be a comic book artist before discovering hip hop.

Career

Early career and breakthrough

Eminem began his music career in 1988, forming the group New Jacks and later joining Soul Intent. His debut album, Infinite, was released in 1996 but failed to achieve commercial success. However, his next project, The Slim Shady EP, caught the attention of Dr. Dre, who signed him to Aftermath Entertainment.

Mainstream success

Eminem's major-label debut, The Slim Shady LP (1999), was a commercial success and earned him his first Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. His follow-up albums, The Marshall Mathers LP (2000) and The Eminem Show (2002), were also critically acclaimed and commercially successful, solidifying his status in the music industry.

Continued success and ventures

Eminem continued to release successful albums, including Encore (2004), Relapse (2009), and Recovery (2010). He has also ventured into acting, starring in the semi-autobiographical film 8 Mile (2002), which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Lose Yourself".

Personal life
