E. Fuller Torrey

E. Fuller Torrey (pronounced: Ee Full-er Tor-ee) is a renowned American psychiatrist and schizophrenia researcher. He is the founder of the Treatment Advocacy Center and the associate director of research at the Stanley Medical Research Institute.

Etymology

The name "E. Fuller Torrey" is of English origin. "Fuller" is an occupational surname referring to someone who fulls cloth, i.e., gathers and pleats it. "Torrey" is a locational surname from any of the various places in England named Torr or Torre.

Biography

E. Fuller Torrey was born on September 6, 1937, in Utica, New York. He completed his undergraduate studies at Princeton University and received his MD from the McGill University Faculty of Medicine. He has dedicated his career to studying and treating mental illnesses, particularly schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
