DomiNations
DomiNations is a mobile strategy game developed and published by Nexon and Big Huge Games. It was released in 2015 for iOS and Android platforms. The game combines traditional real-time strategy (RTS) elements with the city-building and management aspects found in many mobile strategy games. Players choose a nation, such as the British, Romans, Chinese, Germans, French, Japanese, or Greeks, and lead it through the ages, from the Dawn Age to the Space Age, developing technology, building wonders of the world, and engaging in warfare with other players.
Gameplay[edit]
In DomiNations, players start with a small settlement in the Dawn Age and must gather resources such as food, gold, and later on, oil and knowledge, to advance their civilization through the ages. Each age brings new technologies, buildings, and military units. Players can form alliances with others, engage in world wars, and complete single-player missions. The game emphasizes strategic planning in building layouts, troop compositions, and technology research to defend against attackers and succeed in offensive battles.
Resources[edit]
The primary resources in DomiNations are:
- Food: Used for training troops, researching technologies, and more.
- Gold: Required for constructing and upgrading buildings.
- Oil: Introduced in the Industrial Age, used for advanced units and technologies.
- Knowledge: Gained in the University, it's crucial for researching powerful technologies.
Ages[edit]
Players progress through various ages, each unlocking new units, buildings, and technologies. These include:
- Dawn Age
- Stone Age
- Bronze Age
- Iron Age
- Classical Age
- Medieval Age
- Gunpowder Age
- Enlightenment Age
- Industrial Age
- Global Age
- Atomic Age
- Cold War Age
- Space Age
Nations[edit]
Choosing a nation is a critical decision in DomiNations, as each offers unique benefits:
- British: Receive extra loot from battles.
- Romans: Have larger armies.
- Chinese: Benefit from additional citizens and unique units.
- Germans: Excel in warfare with powerful military bonuses.
- French: Faster troop training times.
- Japanese: Stronger buildings and defenses.
- Greeks: Gain bonuses in knowledge production.
Development and Reception[edit]
DomiNations was developed by Big Huge Games, led by industry veterans Brian Reynolds and Tim Train, who previously worked on significant titles like Civilization II and Rise of Nations. The game was published by Nexon, a global leader in online and mobile games. Since its release, DomiNations has been praised for its depth, strategic gameplay, and the blend of city-building with RTS elements. However, it has also faced criticism for its freemium model, which can encourage pay-to-win scenarios.
