Dizygotic (pronunciation: di-zy-got-ic) is a term used in the field of Embryology and Genetics to describe a type of twinning where two separate ova are fertilized by two separate spermatozoa. This results in the birth of two individuals who are genetically as similar as any other siblings, sharing approximately 50% of their genes.

The term 'dizygotic' is derived from the Greek words 'di', meaning 'two', and 'zygotos', meaning 'joined or yoked'. It is often contrasted with monozygotic twinning, where a single ovum is fertilized and then splits to form two individuals who share 100% of their genes.
