What is Opipramol?[edit]

Opipramol is an antidepressant drug used to prevent and treat mental illnesses and anxiety disorders b y restoring chemical balance to the brain.

What are the uses of this medicine?[edit]

Opipramol is used to treat Generalized anxiety disorders (GAD) and Somatoform disorders.

How does this medicine work?[edit]

Opipramol works as a high-affinity antagonist against the histamine H1 receptor and as a low-affinity antagonist against the dopamine D2, serotonin 5-HT2, and α1-adrenergic receptors.

Who Should Not Use this medicine?[edit]

Avoid using this medication if:

  • drink alcohol
  • you have hepatic and renal impairments
  • you have seizure related problems
  • you have acute urinary retention
  • Untreated narrow-angle glaucoma
  • Acute delirium
  • Paralytic ileum
  • Prostrate hypertrophy with residual urinary retention.

This medicine is not FDA approved in the US, although it is commonly used in Europe.

How should this medicine be used?[edit]

Follow the dosage instructions given by your physician, and take after meals.

Dosage for Opipramol varies between patients, and needs to be determined by your physician based on your history. The average dose in adults for depression is about 50-300 mg per day.
