Daughter (/ˈdɔːtər/) is a term used to describe a female offspring in relation to her parents. The term is derived from the Old English 'dohtor', which in turn originates from the Proto-Germanic '*duhtēr'.

Etymology

The word 'Daughter' comes from the Middle English 'doughter', and further back, the Old English 'dohtor'. This term is believed to have originated from the Proto-Germanic '*duhtēr', which is also the source of the Old Norse 'dóttir', the Old High German 'tohter', and the Gothic 'dauhtar'.
