Crook County is a county located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Wyoming. As of the 2020 census, the population was 7,181. Its county seat is Sundance. The county was created in 1875 and organized in 1888.
History
Crook County was named for George Crook, a general in the United States Army who served during the American Civil War and the Indian Wars. The county was established in 1875, and its boundaries were defined by the Wyoming Territorial Legislature.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,865 square miles (7,420 km²), of which 2,854 square miles (7,390 km²) is land and 11 square miles (28 km²) (0.4%) is water.
