Conrad Murray
Grenadian-American cardiologist
Conrad Robert Murray (born February 19, 1953) is a Grenadian-American cardiologist best known for his role as the personal physician of Michael Jackson at the time of the singer's death in 2009. Murray was subsequently convicted of involuntary manslaughter for administering the drug propofol that led to Jackson's death.
Early Life and Education
Murray was born in Saint Andrew Parish, Grenada. He moved to the United States where he pursued a career in medicine. He attended Texas Southern University and later graduated from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. Murray completed his residency in internal medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and a fellowship in cardiology at the University of Arizona.
Medical Career
Murray established a private practice in Las Vegas, Nevada, and also worked in Houston, Texas. He specialized in cardiology and was known for his work in treating patients with heart disease.
Involvement with Michael Jackson
In 2006, Murray was hired by Michael Jackson as his personal physician. He was responsible for Jackson's medical care during the singer's preparations for his This Is It concert series. On June 25, 2009, Jackson died from acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication at his home in Los Angeles, California. Murray was found to have administered the drugs to Jackson.
Legal Issues
Following Jackson's death, Murray was charged with involuntary manslaughter. His trial began in September 2011, and he was found guilty on November 7, 2011. Murray was sentenced to four years in prison but was released on parole after serving two years.
Personal Life
Murray has been married and has several children. His personal and professional life has been significantly impacted by his involvement in the death of Michael Jackson.
