Pharmacology

GABA is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain and its activation leads to the sedative and anxiolytic effects of clotiazepam. Like other benzodiazepines, clotiazepam increases the frequency of chloride channel opening events, leading to an inhibitory effect on neuronal excitability.
