Clinoril

Clinoril (pronounced: kli-no-ril), also known by its generic name Sulindac (pronounced: su-lin-dak), is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat pain and inflammation caused by conditions such as arthritis, gout, and ankylosing spondylitis.

Etymology

The term "Clinoril" is a brand name, and its etymology is not publicly disclosed. The generic name "Sulindac" is derived from its chemical structure, which is a sulfoxide form of indomethacin.

Usage

Clinoril works by reducing the levels of prostaglandins, chemicals that cells produce in response to injury and certain diseases. These chemicals cause pain, swelling, and inflammation. Clinoril blocks the enzyme that makes prostaglandins (cyclooxygenase), resulting in lower concentrations of prostaglandins. As a consequence, inflammation, pain, and fever are reduced.
