The Carlsberg Group is a Danish multinational brewing company founded in 1847 by J. C. Jacobsen in Copenhagen, Denmark. The company is one of the largest brewery groups in the world, with a large portfolio of beer brands.

History[edit]

J. C. Jacobsen, founder of Carlsberg

The Carlsberg Group was established by J. C. Jacobsen in 1847. Jacobsen was a visionary brewer who was passionate about improving the quality of beer. He named the brewery after his son, Carl, and the Danish word "bjerg," meaning "hill," referring to the hill on which the brewery was built.

In 1875, Jacobsen established the Carlsberg Laboratory, which became a center for scientific research in brewing. The laboratory made significant contributions to the field, including the isolation of pure yeast strains, which revolutionized the brewing industry.

Expansion and Development[edit]

After J. C. Jacobsen's death in 1887, his son Carl Jacobsen took over the company. Under Carl's leadership, Carlsberg expanded its operations and increased its international presence. The company acquired several other breweries and established itself as a major player in the global beer market.

In the 20th century, Carlsberg continued to grow, merging with Tuborg in 1970 to form the United Breweries A/S. This merger strengthened Carlsberg's position in the market and expanded its product range.

Products[edit]

Carlsberg produces a wide variety of beers, including its flagship Carlsberg Lager, Tuborg, and several specialty and craft beers. The company is known for its commitment to quality and innovation in brewing.
