Carla Hall is an American chef, television personality, and former model. She is best known for her appearances on the cooking competition show Top Chef and as a co-host on The Chew, a daytime talk show centered around food and lifestyle.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Carla Hall was born on May 12, 1964, in Nashville, Tennessee. She attended Howard University's School of Business, where she earned a degree in accounting. After graduation, Hall worked as a certified public accountant for two years before deciding to pursue a career in modeling, which took her to Paris, Milan, and London.

Culinary Career[edit]

Transition to Cooking[edit]

While in Europe, Hall developed a passion for cooking. Upon returning to the United States, she enrolled in L'Academie de Cuisine in Gaithersburg, Maryland, where she completed her culinary training. Hall then worked as a sous chef at the Henley Park Hotel in Washington, D.C., and later became the executive chef at the Washington Club.

Top Chef[edit]

Carla Hall gained national recognition as a contestant on the fifth season of Top Chef, where she became known for her warm personality and "cooking with love" philosophy. She finished as a finalist and returned for Top Chef: All-Stars, where she again reached the finals.

The Chew[edit]

In 2011, Hall became one of the co-hosts of The Chew on ABC, alongside Mario Batali, Clinton Kelly, Michael Symon, and Daphne Oz. The show focused on food-related topics and lifestyle tips, and Hall was known for her approachable cooking style and engaging personality.

Personal Life[edit]

Carla Hall is married to Matthew Lyons, and they have one stepson. She is known for her advocacy of healthy eating and often incorporates her Southern heritage into her cooking.
