The Campbell Soup Company was founded in 1869 by Joseph A. Campbell, a fruit merchant, and Abraham Anderson, an icebox manufacturer. The company initially produced canned tomatoes, vegetables, jellies, soups, condiments, and minced meats.

In 1897, John T. Dorrance, a chemist with a degree from MIT, invented condensed soup, which revolutionized the soup industry. This innovation allowed soup to be packaged in smaller cans and sold at a lower price, making it more accessible to the general public.

Expansion and Growth[edit]

Campbell's became a household name, known for its iconic red and white label, which was inspired by the colors of the Cornell University football team.
