Cambrian
Cambrian (/kæmˈbriːən/ kam-BREE-ən) is a term used in geology to refer to a period in Earth's history approximately 541 to 485.4 million years ago. It is the first geological period of the Paleozoic Era, and of the Phanerozoic Eon. The Cambrian is notable for the rapid diversification of multicellular life, known as the Cambrian explosion.
Etymology
The term "Cambrian" comes from Cambria, the Latin name for Wales, where rocks from this age were first studied.
