Brett Favre
Brett Lorenzo Favre (born October 10, 1969) is a former American football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 20 seasons, primarily with the Green Bay Packers. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.
Early Life
Brett Favre was born in Gulfport, Mississippi, and raised in the small town of Kiln, Mississippi. He attended Hancock North Central High School, where he played football and baseball. Favre's father, Irvin Favre, was the head coach of the high school football team.
College Career
Favre attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where he played college football for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. Despite being recruited as a defensive back, he became the starting quarterback during his freshman year. Favre set several school records during his college career.
NFL Career
Atlanta Falcons
Favre was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the second round of the 1991 NFL Draft. He played only one season with the Falcons, appearing in two games.
Green Bay Packers
In 1992, Favre was traded to the Green Bay Packers. He became the starting quarterback in the fourth game of the season and led the team to a victory. Favre played 16 seasons with the Packers, leading them to two Super Bowl appearances and winning Super Bowl XXXI.
New York Jets
In 2008, Favre was traded to the New York Jets. He played one season with the Jets, leading them to a 9-7 record.
Minnesota Vikings
Favre signed with the Minnesota Vikings in 2009. He played two seasons with the Vikings, leading them to the NFC Championship Game in his first season.
Retirement
Favre announced his retirement from the NFL multiple times, finally retiring after the 2010 season. He finished his career with numerous NFL records, including most career passing yards and touchdowns at the time of his retirement.
Legacy
Favre is known for his durability, having started 297 consecutive games, an NFL record for quarterbacks. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.
