Etymology
The name "BioNTech" is an abbreviation of "Biopharmaceutical New Technologies". It reflects the company's focus on the development of new technologies in the field of biopharmaceuticals.
History
BioNTech was founded in 2008 by Uğur Şahin, Özlem Türeci, and Christoph Huber. The company is headquartered in Mainz, Germany. BioNTech gained international recognition in 2020 for developing the first widely approved COVID-19 vaccine, in collaboration with Pfizer.
