Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter (born September 4, 1981) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. Known for her versatility in music and pioneering role in contemporary R&B, Beyoncé has established herself as one of the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 100 million records worldwide as a solo artist. She is also a founding member and lead singer of the R&B girl-group Destiny's Child, one of the best-selling girl groups of all time.
Early Life
Beyoncé was born in Houston, Texas, to Tina Knowles, a hairdresser and salon owner, and Mathew Knowles, a Xerox sales manager and music manager. She is of African-American, Native American, and French descent. Beyoncé attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston and later Alief Elsik High School. She rose to fame in the late 1990s as the lead singer of Destiny's Child.

Destiny's Child
Destiny's Child, formed in 1990, became one of the world's best-selling girl groups in history. Their breakthrough album, The Writing's on the Wall (1999), included hits like "Say My Name" and "Bills, Bills, Bills". The group underwent line-up changes before releasing their third album, Survivor (2001), which was also a success.
Solo Career
Beyoncé's debut album, Dangerously in Love (2003), established her as a solo artist, featuring hits "Crazy in Love" and "Baby Boy".
