Bethel Heights Vineyard
Bethel Heights Vineyard is a family-owned vineyard and winery located in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA of the Willamette Valley in Oregon, United States. Established in 1977, Bethel Heights Vineyard is known for producing high-quality Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and other varietals.
History
Bethel Heights Vineyard was founded by twin brothers Ted and Terry Casteel, along with their spouses, Pat Dudley and Marilyn Webb. The vineyard was planted in 1977 on a 75-acre property in the Eola-Amity Hills, a sub-appellation of the Willamette Valley AVA. The first commercial vintage was released in 1984.
Vineyard
The vineyard is situated on a series of rolling hills with elevations ranging from 420 to 620 feet. The soils are primarily volcanic in origin, consisting of Jory soil and Nekia soil, which are well-drained and ideal for viticulture. The vineyard benefits from the cooling influence of the Van Duzer Corridor, which allows for a longer growing season and the development of complex flavors in the grapes.
Winemaking
Bethel Heights Vineyard employs sustainable farming practices and is certified by LIVE (Low Input Viticulture and Enology). The winemaking philosophy focuses on minimal intervention to allow the unique characteristics of the vineyard to be expressed in the wines. The winery produces a range of wines, including single-vineyard and estate-grown bottlings.
