Bertilimumab

Bertilimumab (pronunciation: ber-til-li-moo-mab) is a human monoclonal antibody designed for the treatment of various inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. It is developed by the biopharmaceutical company Immune Pharmaceuticals.

Etymology

The name "Bertilimumab" follows the World Health Organization's guidelines for the International Nonproprietary Names (INN) of monoclonal antibodies. The suffix "-mab" indicates it is a monoclonal antibody, while the infix "-limu-" suggests it targets the immune system.

Mechanism of Action

Bertilimumab targets and binds to the human eotaxin-1, a potent chemoattractant for eosinophils, a type of white blood cell that plays a key role in the inflammatory response in many diseases. By binding to eotaxin-1, Bertilimumab inhibits the recruitment of eosinophils, thereby reducing inflammation.

Clinical Trials and Uses

Bertilimumab has been investigated in clinical trials for the treatment of Bullous Pemphigoid, Ulcerative Colitis, and Crohn's Disease. It is also being studied for potential use in treating other inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
