Bendson Louima
Bendson Louima (pronunciation: Ben-dson Lou-i-ma; born February 5, 1979) is a Haitian physician renowned for his medical services in the rural community of Caracol in Haiti. He is the founder of Médecins Sans Frontières Suisse Cap-Haïtien (English: Doctors Without Borders Switzerland Cap-Haitïen), an organization dedicated to the treatment of cholera in Haiti. He also serves on the Board of Advisors of Emedex International, an organization committed to building sustainable change in emergency healthcare globally.
Early Life and Education
Dr. Louima was born in Port-de-Paix, Haiti. He pursued his medical education at the Université Notre Dame d'Haïti from 2002 to 2008. Following his graduation, he interned at the Hôpital Universitaire Justinien, Cap-Haïtien from 2008 to 2009.
Career
After completing his internship, Dr. Louima dedicated a year to social service in Caracol, a rural community in the northeastern region of Haiti. Recognizing the dire need for medical services in the area, he became the only medical doctor serving the community.
In response to the cholera epidemic in Haiti, Dr. Louima founded Médecins Sans Frontières Suisse Cap-Haïtien, a branch of the international medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders. This entity focuses on providing treatment for cholera, a significant health issue in Haiti.
In addition to his work in Haiti, Dr. Louima is a member of the Board of Advisors for Emedex International, an organization that aims to create sustainable improvements in emergency healthcare worldwide.
