Barbuda
Barbuda (/bɑːrˈbjuːdə/ bar-BEW-də) is an island in the Eastern Caribbean, and forms part of the state of Antigua and Barbuda.
Etymology
The name "Barbuda" is derived from the Spanish word "barbudos", meaning "the bearded ones". This could be in reference to the indigenous people of the island, or the island's once abundant bearded fig trees.
Geography
Barbuda is located north of Antigua, in the middle of the Leeward Islands. It is known for its low-lying land, covered by tropical vegetation and exotic wildlife. The island is surrounded by coral reefs, making it a popular destination for snorkeling and diving.
Health Care
Health care in Barbuda is managed by the Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment of Antigua and Barbuda. The island has one hospital, the Hanna Thomas Hospital, which provides basic medical services. For more specialized care, patients are often referred to the Mount St. John's Medical Centre in Antigua.
