Bangladesh University of Professionals (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ পেশাদার বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়), commonly known as BUP, is a public university in Dhaka, Bangladesh, operated by the Bangladesh Armed Forces.

In Bengali, Bangladesh University of Professionals is pronounced as Bangladesh Peshadar Bishwabidyaloy.

Etymology

The term "Bangladesh University of Professionals" is a direct translation of its Bengali name. "Bangladesh" refers to the country of location, "University" signifies its status as a higher education institution, and "Professionals" indicates its focus on professional development and education.

History

Established in 2008, BUP is the 29th public university of Bangladesh. It was commissioned by the Bangladesh Armed Forces and is operated by them. The university was established to facilitate professional degrees and to run undergraduate, graduate and post graduate degrees through its faculties and affiliated and constituent colleges/institutions.

Faculties and Departments

BUP comprises four faculties: the Faculty of Security and Strategic Studies, Faculty of Business Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and Faculty of Science and Technology. Each faculty has several departments offering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
